The British Council in Egypt is looking for a talented Hourly Paid Teacher of English to join the team in teaching centers in Cairo or Alexandria for 2020. Egypt plays a major role in the British Council’s ELT work across the whole Arabic-speaking region. There are excellent opportunities for further development in various directions. The centers run CELTA, distance DELTA, CiSELT, CiPELT and various management and general training courses. Sponsorship is available on most courses for suitable candidates. For more experienced teachers there is a supported environment to enter into teacher training and coordinator opportunities. The purpose of the job is to promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English and to support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission. 

Essential Requirements: 

  1. First Degree.
  2. Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL (global minimum standard).
  3. Full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to a user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.

Desirable Requirements:

  1. Adults General English (400+ hours)
  2. Young adults aged 7-17 (400+ hours)
  3. PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations.
  2. Ensuring teaching meets Teaching Quality Standards and organizational expectations.
  3. Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues.
  4. Supporting the teaching center’s activities and British Council plans.
  5. Plan, prepare and deliver up to 20 hrs of high-quality English Teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles.
  6. Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
  7. Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  8. To keep updated professionally by attending Centre Meetings, Professional development and Centre days and participation in British Council performance management system.
  9. Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching center team in delivering excellent customer service.
  10. Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK.
