ARES-Research and Higher Education Academy in Belgium are offering scholarships for Master’s and training courses to get the chance to pursue a one-year specialized master’s degree program or a 4-6 month advanced training program within a higher education institution of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. 

Master degree programs available:

  1. Master in Development, Environment and Societies.
  2. Master in Human Rights.
  3. Master in Aquatic Resources Management and Aquaculture.
  4. Master in Risk and Disaster Management.
  5. Master in Integrated Risk Management in the Global South (IManHR).
  6. Master in International and Development Economics.
  7. Master in Transfusion Medicine.
  8. Master in Microfinance.
  9. Master in Integrated Production and Preservation of Natural Resources in Urban Areas.
  10. Master in Public Health Methodology.
  11. Master in Public Health Sciences - Research Methods Applied to Global Health.
  12. Master in Environmental Science and Management in Developing Countries.
  13. Master in Transport and Logistics.

Training available:

  1. Internship in control and quality assurance of medicines and health products.
  2. Research internship for strengthening health systems.
  3. Internship in a geographical information system.
  4. Internship in the valorization of secondary resources for sustainable construction.
  5. Methodological internship in support of innovation in family farming.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. A citizen of a developing country. To be eligible, applicants must be residing and working in their country of origin when they apply.
  2. Only nationals of the following countries may apply for grants from ARES: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for training courses in English), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam.
  3. Be under the age of 40 for degree programs, and under 45 for training courses, at the time the training is scheduled to begin.
  4. Have earned a diploma comparable to a graduate-level diploma from Belgian university studies. Nevertheless, for certain training courses, different requirements may be requested, which will be specified below.
  5. Possess relevant professional experience in a developing country of at least two years after graduate studies, or of three years after their studies if the applicant has earned a post-grad degree from a university in an industrialized country.
  6. Have a good mastery of written and spoken French. For training courses held in another language, it is essential to have a proper level in the course’s language, both written and spoken. We shall insist that the applicant commits to learning French in order to take part in daily life in Belgium.
  7. Apply for only one training course.
  8. Applicants should not obtain prior admission to one of the Francophone universities in Belgium in order to be considered for ARES grants.

Financial support:

For the Master scholarship:

  1. International travel costs.
  2. Living allowance of €1150 a month for a duration of 12 months.
  3. Indirect mission fees of €150.
  4. Arrival allowance, tuition and return fees of €700.
  5. Registration fees.
  6. Insurance fees.

For training and internships:

  1. International travel costs.
  2. Living allowance: 83 €/day for stays lasting 8 to 17 days. 1400 €/month for stays lasting 18 days to 1 month (set amount). 1400 €/month for stays lasting 1 to 6 months.
  3. Indirect mission fees of €150.
  4. Insurance fees.
  5. Travel expenses in the framework of university training.
