Grants for Young People from Countries Bordering the Mediterranean Sea 2019

Marc de Montalembert Foundation is offering grants to encourage young people in acquiring a better knowledge of the cultures of their region, one or two grants – scholarships for projects – are awarded each year for the realization of a cultural undertaking or one having to do with the development of a craft.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Come from a country bordering on the Mediterranean,
  2. Be less than 28 years old the year of the grant’s award,
  3. Manifest a genuine vocation in a specific cultural field or one linked to the development of a particular craft,
  4. Present a project related to that vocation which shall be realized in one or more countries of the Mediterranean as long as different from the applicant’s origin country.
  5. Are taken into account only individual and personal projects with a cultural nature.
  6. Projects must be original and produce a concrete outcome in a form that it may spread.
  7. No collective projects are admitted, nor those projects related to a course of study or university research.

Projects Fields:

Projects have been realized in the following fields: 

  • Creative writing
  • Architecture
  • Archaeology
  • Anthropology
  • Sociology
  • Music
  • History of art
  • Craftsmanship
  • Engraving Painting
  • Photography.

The Winner announcement: 

  • The announcement of the award of the grant will be in late March and the presentation in late April.
  • The winner must present the final result of his project within the next year. 
  • The Foundation, having assessed the quality of work, may consider aid to its publication and dissemination.

About the grant:

  • By scholarship grants and the Marc de Montalembert Prize, the Fondation Marc de Montalembert contributes to developing a better knowledge of the cultures of the Mediterranean world as well as their dissemination, particularly among the young people of that region.
  • Since 1994 the Foundation has provided financial support to 28 projects undertaken by young grant winners from 8 Mediterranean countries. 


The Foundation Marc de Montalembert strives to promote cultural understanding in the Mediterranean world. It awards annual grants for the realization of cultural projects or related to craft development which enables to discover the diversity of Mediterranean cultures. The Foundation also awards the Marc de Montalembert Prize for advanced research in art history in the Mediterranean. Grants and prizes are awarded to young people from Mediterranean countries. From Rhodes, Greece, the Foundation hosts encounters and seminars on cultural subjects relevant to the region. The Foundation also takes in-residence artists or scholars.
