Center for NanoScience (CeNS) in Germany is presenting a number of fellowships, as it's looking for highly motivated doctoral and postdoctoral candidates who are interested in multidisciplinary research and want to join its collaborative network of nanoscientists.

All positions offer excellent research and training conditions within the stimulating scientific environment of the Center for NanoScience Applications by researchers with handicap will be considered with priority under equal conditions. It welcomes applications from female candidates.

These are full-time positions. The possibility of part-time and flexible working hours will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

For PhD positions

Holding a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in either the field of physics, chemistry or life sciences.
Preparing for a Master's degree in one of the above-named fields to be completed no later than two months before the
start of the project OR hold a master's degree or equivalent.
Excellent grades.
Very good command of the English language.
Strong scientific motivation.
High interest in interdisciplinary research.

For postdoc positions

Holding or preparing for a PhD or Dr. rer. nat. in a related subject.
High-quality publications.
Strong scientific motivation.
High interest in interdisciplinary research.

Benefits:

Salary: Doctoral and postdoctoral candidates will be fully funded by the individual research groups and will be employed at the university/MPI. Regarding doctoral students holding a master's degree, or a single person, this means gross salary starting from about €2.550 - €2.875 per month. And as for Postdocs, for a single person, this means a gross salary starting from about €3.850 per month.
Holidays: Paid vacation is 30 days per year. In addition, there are 12 official holidays in Bavaria (Christmas, Easter, labor day, etc.).
Student Fees: There are no tuition fees at LMU Munich. An applicant has to be enrolled at the university for at least two semesters. For each semester they will have to pay a student fee of 62 plus a fee for the public transportation system of about 67 EUR.
Health Insurance: Health Insurance is obligatory and will automatically be deducted from the wage. CeNS will assist fellows with finding suitable health insurance.
Visa: EU-Nationals do not need a visa. More or less every other national needs a so-called national visa (a tourist visa for the interview, but a national visa in order to work in Germany). More information here.
Working language: During your postdoc/PhD the working language is English. And to make fellows familiar with the German language and culture, they can attend a German course at the LMU.
Curriculum: A large variety of workshops, courses, etc.

Additional Qualifications such as Awards, international experience, etc. can be very helpful to stand out from the crowd. Keep in mind that awards should be related to your field of study.
Motivation essay: a short statement to explain the reason for applying for this position at CeNS, and to describe previous academic achievements.
Two letters of recommendation.

The Center for NanoScience (CeNS) was founded in 1998 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. Its aim is to promote, bundle and join interdisciplinary research in the field of nanoscience in the Munich area. CeNS is an association of working groups from basic research and industry and acts as a network that connects various institutions from a variety of disciplines.
