The United Nations is offering a unique volunteering opportunity to produce a concept note for the development of digital maps for peacekeepers for 2020. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a training arm of the UN system with a mandate related to building capacities for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through outcome-based training and learning initiatives. The Division for Peace strives to support the (re-)establishment of peaceful, just and inclusive societies by enabling individuals, institutions and organizations to contribute meaningfully to sustainable peace. UNITAR delivers pre-deployment training to thousands of peacekeepers in a variety of African countries and it continuously expands the areas in which it trains. In the coming years, it aims to deliver more training on the use of military technology, including the use of digital maps.

Responsibilities:

In case there are no suitable applications available, the volunteers provide ideas for the development of an application. Thirdly, the volunteers produce a feasibility study in which they analyze the best applications. This feasibility study focuses in detail on technical, economical and practical aspects of the application, which include the identification of partnerships. Fourthly, they produce a short concept note in which they translate the most feasible option into a concrete idea for a project. The volunteers will receive guidance and support over the course of the collaboration.

Desirable skills:
