The United Nation announced an internship in the Environment Affairs field. The internship is for 6 months, and it is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. The intern will work with UN Environment´s Resource Efficiency Unit, under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator of the Resource Efficiency Sub-programme. The position will support the following projects:

  • Consumer Information and eco-labeling
  • Eco-innovation and circular economy
  • Sustainable Public Procurement
  • 10 Year Framework Programme for Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP);
  • Inclusive Green Economy Initiative
  • Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE)
  • UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)

More specifically, the job will entail the following tasks:

  • Support with the follow-up of the Driving Sustainable Consumption in Latin America, Inclusive Green Economy, and PAGE national projects.
  • Support the preparation of translations, briefings, communication notes, information material, and powerpoint presentations.
  • Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops, seminars, webinars, and other similar activities, supporting the preparation of agendas, co-drafting background materials, and meeting reports.
  • Assist with the development of project proposals to mobilize resources for the LAC region, including identifying local or regional co-funding opportunities for these topics in the region.
  • Review literature and prepare summaries with main findings on resource efficiency, green economy, sustainable production and consumption, sustainable finance, and others.

Education:

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Final year undergraduate or master’s degree student in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, International Relations/ Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration or a related area preferred. The intern must be enrolled and be able to submit a university endorsement once selected for this position.
