Central European University is offering scholarships program for Master's students at its campuses in Budapest and Vienna. Nationalism Studies Program is one of the few programs in the world dedicated to the study of nationalism, migration, populist politics, ethnic conflict, prejudice, self-determination, populism, minority protection, and language and citizenship rights. Fostering critical and cross-discipline approaches, CEU international faculty brings together a wide spectrum of expertise, such as political science, history, sociology, international relations, anthropology, social theory, social psychology, and legal studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students with previous studies in all fields of humanities and social sciences (including philosophy, sociology, anthropology, history, political science, psychology, languages, journalism, public policy) are welcome to apply.

Master's Programs:

CEU Master's program comes in two formats:

  1. MA in Nationalism Studies: The one-year degree is designed for candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree, 
  2. MA in Nationalism Studies / 2 YEARS: The two-year version is primarily for graduates with a three-year bachelor’s degree.

Topics:

  1. The global challenge of migration.
  2. Populism and right-wing politics.
  3. The sociology and social psychology of ethnic prejudice.
  4. Transnational citizenship and diasporas.
  5. Nationalist politics and democracy.
  6. Anthropological approaches to race and ethnicity.
  7. Religious nationalism.
  8. Self-determination and international minority protection.
  9. Nationalism in Southeastern Europe.

Benefits:

  • As for funding: CEU offers two types of scholarships:
    1. CEU Master’s Scholarships: 100% of the tuition fee, health insurance; a monthly stipend that enough to cover regular expenses.
    2. CEU Master's Tuition Award: up to 100% of the tuition fee; health insurance for the official duration of the program.
  • Students will receive advanced methodological training in applied social sciences, and benefit from research opportunities, conferences, and lectures, as well as field trips and study visits.

Required Documentation:

  1. Letters of recommendation.
  2. Academic records.
  3. A full curriculum vitae or resume, including a list of publications, if any.
  4. Proof of English proficiency.
  5. A 500-word outline of proposed research topic with the title.
  6. An academic writing sample in English, e.g. a term paper (minimum 10 pages, maximum 25 pages).
