UN Volunteer is offering a volunteer opportunity to Bachelor holders in Law, International Law, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field to work as Field Officer.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that UNHCR’s policies, standards and procedures are constantly and coherently applied in the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
  2. Ensure that the needs of persons of concern in the AoR are assessed and analysed in a participating manner and using an Age, Gender and Diversity
  3. Ensure that protection incidents and gaps in assistance are immediately identified and addressed.
  4. Identify vulnerable groups or individuals who may need special attention or special arrangements and make recommendations on the needs of different groups of refugees.
  5. Assess protection and assistance needs of refugees and asylum-seekers in the region and monitor implementation of refugee assistance programmes.
  6. In co-ordination with implementing partners, handle the reception, registration and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR.
  7. Provide inputs for project submissions and periodic narrative and financial reports for the annual programme.
  8. Develop and maintain relations with local authorities ensuring smooth negotiations in all aspects of UNHCR's mandate for the benefit of refugees.
  9. Monitor the security situation in the area and intervene as appropriate with the local authorities.
  10. Participate in needs assessment as a member of the Multi-Functional team.
  11. In close coordination with programme and project control, monitor project implementation and provide feedback on the progress to the relevant units/sections.
  12. Undertake other relevant duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1.  Bachelor degree or equivalent
  2. Law, International Law, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field.
  3. Required experience: 24 Months
  4. Minimum 2 years of work experience with refugees.
  5. International experience, field experience, community services and coordination/management role also required.
  6. Computer skills: Office Package (excellent knowledge of Word, good knowledge of Excel and Power Point) and Internet browsing.
  7. Language skills:English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  8. Area of expertise: Protection of refugees, asylum seekers and IDPs
  9. At least 2 years of field experience in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) or refugee setting.
  10. Excellent leadership, coordination, and presentation skills. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  11. Excellent knowledge of the Humanitarian reform process and the role of the humanitarian community (UN System, Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, and NGO), preferably in Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM).
  12. Extensive knowledge of current humanitarian issues.
  13. Good knowledge of CCCM and protection technical guidelines and standards.
  14. Experience of working in complex emergencies.
