United nation announces an internship which is within the strategic solutions section, policy, strategy and governance division, office of information and communication technology (OICT), for a period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to nine months, if required by the section. The innovative team is looking for graduates or students on their last year that have interest in technology innovation and software solutions provisions to member states. The internship is unpaid, full-time and for three months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the office. Interns will work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of an information systems officer in the section to which they are assigned.

You also must:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program on second university degree or equivalent, or higher OR
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program with minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent OR
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • Be savvy users of standard Microsoft office software applications (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Show interest or have demonstrated intention to study further.
  • Work in a field relevant to the work of information and communications technology, information management, communications, customer relationship management systems, technology innovation and/or relevant fields.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat but for this position, fluency in English in both oral and written skills is required.

Your Responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned section as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assistance in drafting and preparing documents/presentations.
  2. Attending and summarizing meetings.
  3. Participation in training activities, including the preparation of training materials and user documentation, and compilation of relevant information.
  4. Assistance in developing documentation and material and publishing them to websites.
  5. Interacting with other OICT teams responsible for technology innovation.
  6. Attend and support the preparation of meetings, conferences, workshops and other events.
  7. Supporting ongoing technology challenges/hackathons.
  8. Support towards the capture, management and analysis of data, information, statistics and reports
  9. Support the activities of OICT as needed as deemed necessary by their supervisor.
