Sawiris Foundation offers Scholarships for Executive MSc in Cities which is aimed at urban professionals who want to rethink the way their organizations are delivering large-scale change in cities. Using an evidence-based approach, the program builds upon LSE Cities’ extensive interdisciplinary urban research program and social science research methods to train the urban leaders of tomorrow.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. The LSE-Sawiris Scholarships are open to Executive MSc in Cities applicants who live in Egypt and work for a public or third sector organization. This includes people who are employed by a local/national government or by a charity, a non-profit or an NGO.
  2. People who are employed by private sector organizations are not eligible to apply for the LSE-Sawiris Scholarships, even if their company is contracted for work by a government organization.
  3. At least 10 years of professional experience in urban-related public/private/third sector roles. Applicants with a similar level of experience who wish to move into the urban sector will also be considered.
  4. A good first degree of at least a 2.1 (UK), a GPA of 3.5 (USA) or an overall result of 80% or higher from an Egyptian university. Exceptions can sometimes be made for applicants with substantial professional experience.
  5. If English is not your first language then you will need to demonstrate that you meet LSE’s ‘higher’ English proficiency requirement. It is not necessary to provide proof of this at the application stage, but it may be made a condition of your offer.

Funding:

Successful awardees of the LSE-Sawiris Scholarships will receive full tuition fee support. The Sawiris Foundation will also provide transport to and from Cairo, as well as accommodation and living costs in London during teaching modules

Selection process:

The panel will use information from the program application to assess the quality of each applicant and their potential to improve Egyptian cities through their leadership in urban-related fields. A shortlist of applicants will be invited to an interview via Skype on Thursday 19 March 2020. In-person interviews will not be offered. All applicants will receive a decision no later than 1 April 2020. The panel’s decision is final and no appeals are possible.

Sawiris Foundation:

The Sawiris Foundation was founded in April 2001 as a grant-making foundation. Set up with an endowment from the Sawiris family – which is made up of prominent members of the business world and the development community - it is one of the first family donor foundations dedicated to social development to be established in Egypt. In 2005, the Foundation was granted special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
