Initiatives of Change is offering an exceptional exchange and residential program for leaders from countries that are in conflict, which will be taking place in Switzerland from 28 June to 27 July 2020. The Caux Scholars Program (CSP) is part of an active alumni network of more than 1,000 people from 109 countries. The leaders represent diverse cultures, beliefs, languages, educational and religious backgrounds. CSP is a multi-disciplined network of global leaders, influencers, activists, expert scholars, and practitioners who share their critical knowledge and experiences in addressing conflicts of many kinds in over 60 countries. During the 2019 program, 21 in-depth contextual analyses of context-specific conflicts were presented by Scholars on Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, India, Iran, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, Switzerland, Syria, Tibet, Ukraine, and the United States.

About the program:

The Caux Scholars Program teaches students to identify and analyze conflicts, to understand the factors that create and sustain conflicts, and to use practical methods to diffuse conflicts through global disciplines in conflict prevention, negotiation, development studies, international relations, legislation and policy, and transitional justice. Since the program’s inception in 1991, CSP has demonstrated conflict transformation in action where sustainable progress is made toward personal honesty, accountability, sustained dialogue, reflection, reconciliation, restorative justice, and people-centered decision-making processes. A deep lens into the procedures of international criminal courts, truth and reconciliation commissions, restitution/reparations, reintegration strategies (DDR), and memorialization practices, are also explored.

Eligibility criteria:

You must be a national citizen of a country that is affected by present-day civil or armed conflict. Please note that candidates with dual nationality or permanent residency in a western country do not qualify for the scholarship.
Active engagement in creating peace and mitigating conflict is required.
Demonstrated financial need is mandatory.

Funding:

The total amount of tuition is USD 3,800 which must be paid in full before the start of the program. The scholarship offers one full alumni scholarship per year. Through fundraising efforts, it also offers partial and full merit-based and need-based scholarships that are given to scholars who have made important community contributions and who demonstrate leadership skills and a clear commitment to furthering the mission and values of Initiatives of Change in their chosen professional field(s).

Initiatives of Change International:

Initiatives of Change International is a voluntary association of independent national legal bodies of Initiatives of Change (IofC). It was founded in April 2002, under the Presidency of Cornelio Sommaruga, former President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. It is a global organization dedicated to "building trust across the world's divides" of culture, nationality, belief, and background.
