NPAF is offering a Residency opportunity to Artists from all over the world. Artists need to provide their own art supplies, equipment, personal items, all insurance and reliable transportation. Artists should be self-sufficient, independent and enjoy working in a public environment and able to commit to the full Air term.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Open to Families, Single Artists, Artist Couples, artist collectives or arts troupes.
  2. The artist in residence will be granted lodging and a venue for at least one Public Presentation of a workshop, lecture or concert.
  3. Please indicate in your application if you would like to give more public presentation(s).
  4. There may be a car available to the artist, donated by a generous park partner.
  5. The artist must commit to the entire month term that they will be applying for. 
  6. All insurance including automobile, health, accidental and insurance to cover all art, supplies, personal items is the sole responsibility of the artist 
  7. Proof of insurances must be provided. 
  8. Any Visas required by the US or any other government will be the responsibility of the participant.
  9. If the program is canceled, not accepted or changed in any way, at any time, no refunds or any fees, including application fees, will be issued.

Required Documents:

  • Work Samples
  1.  IMAGES and/or VIDEO (3-7 images and/or 1 video (3 min. total NO LONGER ) We strongly recommend submitting a promo video.
  2. LITERARY: If your work sample is literary attach a pdf of up to 20 pages)
  3. AUDIO:  (mp3 or m4a format) 3 to 7 shorter pieces (3 minutes each) or a longer composition excerpt of up to 15 minutes in length.
  • Project Proposal Summary
  • Creative Resume or Artist's CV for each artist applying for the Residency. 
  1. This should focus on your artistic and creative side, including personal details, education, exhibitions, works in collections, published texts, teaching experience, curatorial projects, awards and residencies, etc.
  2. However, this does not mean that emerging artists or even self-taught artists should feel excluded or intimidated. The work and the proposal are the primary elements for our panels.
  • Personal Biography (700 words or less)
  1. Label each like: NPAF_HAVONPWINTERAIR2021_(your last name)_(file name).(file type) Example: NPAF_HAVONPWINTERAIR2021_Smith_Painting.jpg

Project Proposal Summary:

  •  Please describe your planned project and working method in a coherent narrative
  • And anything else we may need to know, relevant to your project. Remember to either submit a collaborative project proposal or one proposal each for individual projects.
  • (Two 8.5 x 11 sized pages max.)
  • The following areas below
  1. What is your artistic area of expertise?
  2. How do you plan to present your work through a public presentation/workshop/lecture or concert?
  3. How do you envision in detail the public interaction?
  4. How do you feel being at Hawai'i Volcanoes will further your work ?
  5. Why do you feel the location at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park would be a good fit for your work and process reflecting park aspects, inspired by park resources ?
  6. How do you feel the public will benefit from your artwork being on display or performed in museum and gallery venues?
  7. What help or equipment do you need/expect from other people?

About NPAF:

The National Parks Arts Foundation is a non-Profit Foundation that offers Artists all over the world residencies and other programs with its National Parks. It provides a unique dramatic environment for all artistic media to flourish and to inspire new breakthroughs in process and result. It also have organized many residencies in different places with wonderful residence Programs, Museum In-Loan Programs, and Workshops in cooperation with The American National Parks, National Monuments, World Heritage Sites and other parks.
