Study in Norway announces its grant which known as a mobility grant which is awarded for a minimum of one and a maximum of three months. The fieldwork must be conducted at a Norwegian higher education or research institution, and the applicant must provide details of a tutor at this institution who has agreed to tutor the student during his/her stay in Norway. The grant is given as a contribution to covering expenses in connection with the research stay in Norway.

Eligibility:

  1. The mobility grant is awarded master and Ph.D. students in countries outside Norway, at institutions with a department for Nordic/Scandinavian studies, who have chosen Norwegian language or Norwegian literature as a topic for their dissertation. 
  2. The grant must be used for fieldwork in Norway in connection with the dissertation. 
  3. Each of bachelor students, students who have previously received grants from Diku (SIU) for the same project within the same educational level and students with Norwegian citizenship, studying at Master or Ph.D. level at an institution outside Norway can't apply for this grant.
  4. The topic for the dissertation (project) must be Norwegian language and/or Norwegian literature, and the application must include an extensive description of the project.
  5. The stay in Norway should normally be during the semester periods, but fieldwork during the summer months may also be accepted. 
  6. The timing of the applicant’s stay in Norway must be agreed upon by the applicant and the tutor in Norway in co-operation.
  7. The grant may not be used for participation at summer courses/summer schools.
  8. A recommendation from the home institution tutor is mandatory.
  9. The receiver of the mobility grant is responsible for finding accommodation during the stay in Norway.

Funding:

  • The grant is given as a contribution to covering expenses of travel, board in connection with the research stay in Norway. 
  • For travel grant, The following fixed rates apply: 
  1. 215 $ for travel from countries in Europe.
  2. 322 $ for travel from St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia.
  3. 538 $ for travel from other cities in Russia, other Eurasia countries and countries outside of Europe.
  • Grant for board and lodging. The grant follows the rates set by The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund for basic support and shall cover board and lodging. The grant for board and lodging must proportionately be paid back if the fieldwork in Norway ends earlier than planned. 
  • Note: any surplus of the grant may be subject to tax depending on the tax authorities’ judgment.
