AFS is offering a scholarship opportunity to talented young people from all backgrounds who reflect the diversity of populations around the world, particularly young women and students with financial need. AFS have partnered to host the students, four-week programs in Brazil, Egypt, India, and the USA. This scholarship is ideal for, but not limited to, students with demonstrated strengths in academics, but particularly an interest in science, technology, engineering, math and other fields important to the energy industry, as well as an interest to study abroad and meet other cultures.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Must be born between December 1, 2002 and June 1, 2005
  2. The ability to participate fully in a classroom and program conducted entirely in English
  3. Demonstrated interest in STEM, study abroad and interacting with different cultures
  4. Willingness to attend all four Academy destinations – Brazil, Egypt, India or the USA
  5. Ability and willingness to travel unaccompanied abroad
  6. Interested in exploring new cultures

Funding:

The scholarship covers:

  • the AFS program fee.
  • domestic and international airfares.
  • your visa (if necessary).
  • government fees to obtain a passport (if needed).
  • meals and housing.
  • and all program costs.

Benefits:

  • Scholarship winners will enrich their STEM knowledge and skills through interactive, hands-on curriculum
  • while developing critical global competencies, including problem solving, analytical skills, intercultural understanding, and the ability to build bridges across cultures.

Housing:

  • Participants on the Egypt program will live with host families, 
  • participants in the USA program will live in a dormitory
  • and participants in the Brazil and India program will have a mixture of both. 
  • AFS is committed to diversity of all kinds and its host families come from all backgrounds that reflect the diversity of the populations of Brazil, Egypt and India. 
  • All host families are carefully vetted by AFS.

Selection Criteria:

  • Application review and scholarship selection will then be conducted by AFS on a competitive, blind, third-party evaluation to ensure that all students are selected without preference or prejudice and solely on the quality of their application, merits and experience. 
  • A select number of applicants will be invited for an interview after which scholarship winners will be chosen and notified.
