Al-Jazeera Media Network has a vacancy to fill in Doha, Qatar. As it is seeking out a qualified individual to assume Head of Monitoring post within Al-Jazeera Arabic channel. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing all processes aim to monitor news on all different platforms.

Required Qualifications and Work Experiences:

  1. As for education, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Media, or any relevant specialization, or any other equivalent degree.
  2. As for work experience, applicants must possess no less than 7 years of tv field experience, with four years of which to be in the field of social media platforms.
  3. Possessing effective communication skills.
  4. The ability to take initiatives concerning how work is done, and to fully fathom editorial policy adopted by Al-Jazeera.
  5. Necessary skills to effectively communicate with all of the different departments and sections of the Al-Jazeera channel, that help in creating a positive work environment.
  6. Be talented in managing task forces within the Monitoring Department.
  7. Be skilled in keeping abreast of audience news interests, and strive to translate these interests into different kinds of news content.  
  8. Flexibility and ability to work under pressure, and create positive vibes in a work environment, and be a team player.
  9. Be aware of the necessary principles of the department’s budgeting.
  10. General understanding of copyright law, and legal ramifications of the production process, in addition to grasping practical minute details in a timely manner to get work done.
  11. Eloquent in expressing directives conveyed to team members, that allows him/her to ensure precision and integrity in work.
  12. As for the required languages, applicants must master the English language.
  13. It will be considered an asset for the applicant if he/she masters any other languages.
  14. Softwares and apps that applicants must be proficient at:
  • Production systems such as iNEWS.
  • Besides social media platforms, news agencies, global channels, and newspapers.

Key Responsibilities of Head of Monitoring:

  1. Lead and supervise daily tasks of the Monitoring department, including assigning tasks, assuring all work is done in line with the highest work standards.
  2. Staying up to date with most recent global developments, though news agencies, social media platforms, and any other media of any form.  
  3. Conduct fact checks of news gathered, make sure of its exclusivity, quality, and adherence to Al-Jazeera channel’s standards.
  4. Checking content that is ready to be broadcast.
  5. Coordinating with the graphics section, to choose the appropriate visuals for news stories.
  6. Making sure all news is reviewed, and consistent with set editorial standards.
  7. Ensuring that all news stories are delivered to the editing department according to set deadlines.
  8. Making of a point of following all global news on different news sources, which allows newsroom to never miss anything worth reporting.
  9. Keeping up with technological advances of different platforms, to ensure that Al-Jazeera is always the first in reporting news.
  10. Other responsibilities include: Assuming any other responsibilities related to the job of Head of Monitoring.
