The Search for Common Ground’s Central and Southern Africa (CSA) team is looking for a Program Development intern who will support in the design of proposals and programs for sustainable peace and conflict transformation in the region and will have the opportunity to practice high-level, professional skills in an international organization. The position will be in Washington, the United States and no travel is expected. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting with the development of grant proposals for country and regional programs, including but not limited to copy-editing,  and gathering documentation required for proposals.
  2. Supporting regional communications activities, including compiling updates from country offices, revamping website content, and creating visibility pieces for social media.
  3. Contributing to the development of a complete, up-to-date, and accurate context statements of funding proposals through rigorous desk research as required.
  4. Editing French and English-language proposals and communications materials for clarity and precision.
  5. Representing CSA team at relevant meetings and events in Washington, D.C as requested by the Regional Director.
  6. Organizing meetings for incoming CSA country and regional staff. 
  7. As internship descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  1. Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
  2. A self-starting, detail-oriented and flexible approach to tasks.
  3. Demonstrated interest in the CSA region and/or conflict resolution.
  4. Ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
  5. Ability to read French.
  6. Excellent attention to detail.
  7. Hours: This position requires a commitment of no less than twenty hours a week.  

Desirable:

  1. Degree in relevant subject.
  2. Fluency or advanced proficiency in French, with a particular focus on writing.
  3. Practical experience with program design.
  4. Interest in and knowledge of conflict resolution.
  5. Experience working in a conflict resolution setting.
  6. Experience working at a non-governmental organization/non-profit or similar environment.
  7. International experience, preferably in developing countries.
  8. Undergraduates (juniors and seniors), graduate students, and recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Funding:

The application form is free for all applicants. The internship is unpaid, and school credits can be arranged for students with their institution. For international applicants, Search is not responsible for providing student or work visas; you will need to make your own visa arrangements.
