The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) offers Fred Hollows Foundation Fellowships, a one-year training fellowship in any subspecialty for young ophthalmologists from developing countries at a designated ICO Fellowship Training Center. Three fellowships will be awarded each year. Fellowships commence the year following application. For example, a successful 2020 applicant will begin his or her fellowship after January 2021.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicant must reside in a low-resource country in which the Fred Hollows Foundation is active.
The fellowship award is US$25,000 to cover round trip travel, living expenses, health coverage, liability coverage, and professional expenses.
The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) represents and serves professional associations of ophthalmologists throughout the world. ICO works with ophthalmologic societies and others to enhance ophthalmic education and improve access to the highest quality eye care in order to preserve and restore vision for the people of the world. The roots of the ICO date back to 1857 when 150 ophthalmologists from 24 countries convened in Brussels for the first World Ophthalmology Congress. Participants in the Congress founded the ICO in 1927 in Scheveningen, Holland
