ClimateLaunchpad is offering its annual competition for 2020, which is considered a ticket to global success. As participants submit an idea or innovation with environmental impact and then get help to fast track that idea into a business and bypass all possible pitfalls along the way. And be taught how to get the idea funded and launched. These ideas can be an innovation in renewable energy, a sustainable transition in the food chain, a mind shift in urban mobility or any other way to tackle climate change.

Eligibility criteria:

  • In 2020 the competition is open to participants based in the countries listed on this page.
  • Participants should be: 
  1. Have not yet started a business or they started it less than one year ago;
  2. Have no substantial revenue;
  3. Have attracted no more than € 200,000 in investment;
  4. Have not yet sold products, solutions or prototypes on commercial terms.
  • Even if they submitted idea is on the back of a napkin, they are most welcome to join.
  • All entries will be reviewed and ideas that fit the bill of the competition will get invited to join.

Competition phases:

One participant is accepted to join the competition, the games begin:

  • Step 1: Boot Camp: ClimateLaunchpad kicks off with a 2-day Boot Camp in your own country. Our trainers will teach you all you need to know about jump-starting your business.
  • Step 2: Intensive coaching and National Finals (and if applicable Regional Finals): The Boot Camp is followed by a period of intensive coaching. You’ll perfect your pitch, value proposition and business model. After that, you’re ready to rock your National Final where you’ll pitch in front of the National Jury. If applicable, the top teams may go on to Regional Finals. Winning teams of National and/or Regional Finals get to compete in the Global Grand Final.
  • Step 3: Global Grand Final: There is prize money to be won. The overall winner of the Global Grand Final receives € 10,000, the runner up gets € 5,000 and the idea that comes in third place wins € 2,500. The top 16 teams selected by the jury to perform in the Final Round of the Global Grand Final, will automatically get direct access to the Climate-KIC ClimateLaunchpad Accelerator, the renowned business school where great ideas grow into great businesses.

A point of note:

As there is global uncertainty with regards to COVID-19. The well-being of our global CLP family and participants is our priority. We are working hard to ensure CLP20 runs as smoothly as possible given these parameters. In saying this, applying to ClimateLaunchpad is still possible. Keep in mind however, due to altering regulations across the globe, the dates and the format of the program may be impacted. Please reach out to your National Lead if you have any questions about the program in your country.
