IRC is seeking a project manager for an anticipated USAID funded project designed promote peace and reconciliation at the community level in South Sudan. The project will incorporate a people-to-people approach and empower people to advance peace, stability, and dialogue through local solutions, civic participation, and increased access to information.  The project will enable local actors to build cross-line interdependence and intra-community cohesion to promote peace processes, reconciliation, and peaceful co-existence. Activities will mitigate conflicts from escalating by providing targeted support to peace actors, community-level leaders, influencers, and constituent-responsive authorities who are engaged in, or wish to be engaged in, peace-building, conflict mitigation, and reconciliation. This job is contingent on the IRC being awarded funding and is anticipated to begin in Summer 2020. The IRC is seeking a qualified project & capacity building manager that will lead on organizational and technical capacity building activities, other key activities, and second the governance and rights coordinator. You will report to the governance and rights coordinator. In particular, the position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day relationship and coordination with local partners, working with peace committees, and providing capacity-building training. You will also manage relationships with key local stakeholders in the communities targeted by the project and lead community engagement activities. 

Eligibility:

You must have:

  1. University degree in peace-building/conflict management, political science, international development, business administration, or other related field.
  2. Minimum three years of relevant professional experience working on peace building, social cohesion, early warning systems, or governance projects in South Sudan, and experience in Unity State especially desirable.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage and partner with communities, civil society organizations, government representatives, donors and other stakeholders.
  4. Experience with community empowerment programming, including community driven development or other participatory development processes.
  5. Knowledge of context and conflict analysis.
  6. Experience with gender-sensitive programming and implementation.
  7. Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook).
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  • Develop, or adapt existing, training materials on conflict management and mitigation, early warning systems, community engagement and other related topics that will be covered in project training.
  • Conduct training using these materials with the civil society partner, project staff and other key project stakeholders.
  • Lead community engagement activities in the areas targeted by the project, establish and maintain good relationships with key local stakeholders.
  • Develop relevant tools for, and undertake, participatory capacity assessments of IRC’s local civil society partner and relevant community based organizations working on the project.
  • Establish and maintain systems for monitoring and evaluation of organizational development throughout the project time span.
  • Supports context and conflict analysis.

The IRC continues to provide lifesaving support to vulnerable South Sudanese in hard-to-reach areas. As South Sudan struggles to build a lasting peace, IRC is focusing its efforts in the central Equatoria, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity and Lakes states.
