The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMP) in Germany, in collaboration with Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) and University Medical Centre (UMC) is offering the 2020 International PhD Programme (IPP) scholarships. The International PhD Programme (IPP) gives talented and enthusiastic students the opportunity to undertake PhD research at the cutting edge of modern biology. Projects within the Programme address key questions related to the overarching theme of Gene Regulation, Epigenetics & Genome Stability.

About the Program:

Participating groups will be located at the three participating institutions (IMP, JGU, UMC). These groups will cover a broad range of expertise in biochemistry, genetics, cell and developmental biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, and applied physics. Techniques of study include CRISPR/Cas, next-generation sequencing, modeling of gene networks, mass spectrometry or super-resolution microscopy. IMP scientific and social events and the open and vibrant atmosphere in the IPP ensure high levels of exchange and collaboration between the participating groups.

This PhD programme thus provides an excellent opportunity to interact closely with a number of top scientists during the course of your study. Core funding for the International PhD Programme comes from the three participating institutions.

Eligibility:

The IPP wants to attract the brightest minds from all over the world. IMP is looking for creative and ambitious students in the field of life sciences who are looking for challenging work at the cutting edge of science. Each call IMP receive about 500 applications from students all over the world, and it's student community currently consists of over 140 PhD students.

Working language:

As the IPP is an international community, the first criterion for eligibility is that the applicant is able to communicate in English, which is the working language in IMP.

Education and experience:

Applicant should have prior experience in a research environment and have, or be about to complete, a Master's or equivalent degree.

About IMP:

The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a newly established research centre on the campus of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. It is funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation. The scientists at IMB primarily conduct basic science in developmental biology, epigenetics, and DNA repair.
