UN Volunteers Programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Manama, Bahrain within UDP, as a Research Officer - Economist.

Duration:

6 months with possibility of extension.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Minimum age: 22 years old. 
  2. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in Bahrain.
  3. First-level university degree (Bachelor’s university degree or equivalent degree) in economics, sustainable development, public policy, business or public administration, or related area;
  4. At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in economics, sustainable development, public policy, business or public administration, or other relevant programmes; experience with the UN is an asset, as is experience working in other international development organization;
  5. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  7. Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; 
  8. Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; 
  9. Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  10. Sound security awareness;
  11. Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
  12. English(Mandatory), Level – Fluent.
  13. Arabic(Optional), Level – Fluent.

Volunteer duties:

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Resident Representative or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the National UNV Research Officer - Economist will:

  1. Contribute to the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment to the Covid-19 in the Kingdom of Bahrain, by providing advice on data and policy support to UNDP. The assessment will include UN actors (RC, UNCT), as well as national co-leading counterparts in the Government, and to other relevant partners, for the promotion of the SDGs
  2. Support programmatic coordination of actions of the SEIA initiative within UNDP
  3. Assist where needed the research and coordination of the drafting of analytical inputs and contributions to the socio-economic impact assessment of the Covid-19
  4. Support discussion platforms to update the socio-economic impact assessment of the Covid-19 in Bahrain
  5. Supporting the consultations and design of recovery plans to ensure the achievement of SDGs targets by 2030 despite the current health and socio-economic shocks in Bahrain;
  6. Support coordination and develop a framework of monitoring, tracking, reporting and analysis/visualization of UNCT, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
  7. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
