The Department of Culture in Sharjah invites writers, critics, and those interested in critical research to participate in the Sharjah Prizefor Fine Critical Research under the title "Technical terms in criticism Arab composition." The award focuses on artistic and visual research, highlights the efforts of writers, critics, and academics. It reinforces the role of criticism as a creative parallel to the artistic process. The award aims to follow up on distinctive ideas and stimulate specialized critical research in the fields of plastic and visual arts. It also aims to find a common language between critics on the one hand and the interested reader on the other, in addition to establishing the production and documentation of artistic and visual culture.

Competition Objectives:

  • Communication with researchers and Arab art critics.
  • Publicizing the work of Arab writers and critics.
  • Expanding the interest in Arab plastic experiments.
  • Documenting the Arab plastic movement through the work of critics
  • Encourage and introduce talented young critics.
  • Monitoring the movement of plastic criticism in the Arab region.
  • Building the link between society and its arts through critical language.

Competition Rules:

  • The subject of the research should be technical terms in the criticism of the Arabic composition.
  • The research must be prepared for publication and has never been published or printed in a book.
  • The research would not have won a similar award.
  • Entries mustn't be more than one research.
  • Illustrations must be attached if they are needed.
  • Margins and references should be clarified.
  • The research should not be less than 50 pages (A4).
  • Each page should contain about 250 words.
  • Three original copies of the research must be sent in Word format in addition to CD or USB in order to store the materials.
  • Attached photos must be in GPJ format, with high resolution, and photo explanation should be attached.
  • The administration will not commit to returning the submitted researches.

Prizes:

  • First Place: $5000
  • 1st Runner Up: $4000
  • 2nd Runner Up: $3000

The results will be announced in December 2020, and the awards will be distributed during a seminar on the same theme. The winners will be invited to attend the award ceremony and participate in the symposium. The Foundation will finance all costs of attending the winners.

About Department of Culture Sharjah:

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi issued an Emiri Decree No. (20) on April 30, 1981, for establishing the "Cultural Department," which later became known as Department of Culture and Information after initiating the artistic work efforts and expanding the base of it to the citizens throughout the country. The Department assured the aim by creating an identity of Arabic and authentic Islamic culture, influenced by the culture of humanity in a larger sense, following Sheikh Sultan's slogan, "Enough with the concrete revolution, and turn to create a Human being."
