Volunteer Opportunity with the UN in Kuwait: Public Health Specialist

UN Volunteers Programme is offering a volunteer opportunity as a Public Health Specialist, that will be working at UNRCO in Kuwaiti capital.

Duration:

6 months with possibility of extension 

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Minimum age: 22 years old. 
  2. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in Kuwait.
  3. Advanced university degree in Public Health or related; epidemiology is a plus;
  4. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in implementing programs of public health relevance; experience with communicable disease control programs is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  5. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  6. Strong overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications and office technology equipment;
  7. Experience working/volunteering to respect, promote, protect, fulfill the rights of marginalized groups is an advantage; and
  8. Good understanding of Kuwait’s public health-related context and / or Gulf countries is considered an advantage.

Volunteer duties:

Within the delegated authority and under the overall supervision of the Resident Coordinator, the UNV – Public Health Specialist typically reports to the WHO Regional Representative and the Head of the RCO

  1. Provide written analysis and summary on public health programmes, related to the area of health and wellbeing from the UNCT COVID-19 response plan. 
  2. Support national health capacity in the prevention, detection, verification, assessment, including response to health threats from the Covid-19 disease and other emerging and epidemic-prone diseases;
  3. Collaborate with the national COVID-19 response team to improve their capacity to collect, and report routine surveillance data according to regional surveillance standards;
  4. support the Ministry of Health in planning/selecting priority public health programmes, their design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation; and
  5. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
