WFP offers a job opportunity to work as a senior aviation safety associate. This job is located in the regional aviation safety office in Sharjah and reports to the Regional Aviation Safety Officer (RASO). This position is required to support the Chief Aviation Safety Unit (CASU) and RASO in developing and implementing effective strategies, regulatory frameworks and processes to ensure aviation activities in WFP operations achieve the highest practicable level of safety.

Eligibility:

You must have:

  1. First university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training/courses.
  2. Four or more years of progressively responsible related work experience in hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  3. Fluency in both oral and written communication skills in English.
  4. Experience using aviation safety information systems to compile data and perform analyses on potential aviation risks (ECCAIRS).
  5. Experience in identifying Aviation safety hazards and in aviation risk management.
  6. Coaches team in the most effective ways to communicate WFP’s strategic objectives to WFP team and partners in the field.
  7. Implements new methods or tools to improve team’s work processes and productivity.
  8. Maps team’s activities and tasks to specific successes in beneficiary communities to showcase positive impact.
  9. Explains to teammates how each unit contributes to the overall WFP mission.
  10. Identifies skill development opportunities such as training modules or on-the-job experiences for self, colleagues and direct reports.
  11. Facilitates team building activities to build rapport in own unit.
  12. Proactively anticipates potential challenges and develops mitigation plans to ensure that team meets goals and targets.
  13. Identifies opportunities to be creative in own work and to help team be more innovative and accurate in their respective tasks and areas of work.
  14. Facilitates partnerships with other WFP units to accomplish missions in the field.
  15. Sets an example and provides guidance to team on how to build relationships with external partners.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  • Ensure the effectiveness of the aviation safety program and data collection in the region.
  • Identify aviation safety hazards and ensure that accurate reporting is in place and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Perform the follow-up and analysis of occurrences using different RASO methods.
  • Organize with the team the ASU facilitated safety promotion training and workshops for WFP staff and external attendee worldwide.
  • Contribute to various workshops and conferences (Annual Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference (GHAC), the regional safety campaigns and seminars worldwide and WFP participation at Dubai, MEBAA, Singapore and Paris air show etc) and seek opportunities for WFP visibility at the events as required.
  • Support RASO in sourcing sponsorship for events and generate interest in the general public and other non-related aviation companies towards supporting the aviation training sessions through drafting proposals and letters of interest.
  • Design and develop online training and make them available in the WFP learning management system for the identified customers.
  • Implement and manage the online training with the WFP learners and keep and updated register of staff which have completed the assigned training.
  • Provide learners with remote support on any required troubleshooting.
  • Advise CASU through RASO on latest developments on online aviation safety training in the aviation industry for its implementation within WFP aviation system.
  • Support RASO meetings with operators, CAA’s, etc. when required.
  • Assist RASO to prepare the ASU regional office budget and the correspondent report annually including expenditure update monthly.
  • Support regional aviation safety office in Sharjah on procurement issues when required.
