Job Summary

Reporting to and in collaboration with the Director, the Program Director will shape and focus the future direction of the Center for Black Visual Culture (CBVC) in terms of partnerships and new projects within the Institute for African American Affairs (IAAA) and more broadly. Additionally, the Program Director serves as a principal spokesperson (along with the Director) to the internal and external constituencies of CBVC and will further develop the Center’s position nationally and internationally, and in relation to black visual culture, the archive focuses on the arts and university programs.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
Master’s Degree in American Studies, Cultural/Ethnic Studies, History of Art History

Preferred Education:
Doctoral Degree in Art History, History, or American Studies. or Master’s Degree in Arts Management or Business Administration

Required Experience:
10+ years of progressively responsible experience with programs in the field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Also, that must include experience with arts management, planning and implementing various domestic and international activities and events, and managing budgets and operations. Furthermore, experience in development and fundraising, preferably in the greater New York community.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in or familiarity with the management of art, academic, arts organization, or other relevant nonprofit organization.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and work effectively, diplomatically, and collaboratively with key stakeholders (i.e., academic, artistic, and administrative faculty; staff; fellows; alumni; partners; and the broader community).

Likewise, excellent written and oral communication skills. Additionally, excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Similarly, the candidate should have strong people and organizational management skills. Also, the ability to articulate a broad vision and serve as a thought leader for the future of the arts and university education and African diasporic scholarship and creation. Likewise, the candidate must have the ability to commit to the organizational mission.
