The United Nations Volunteers Program is looking for online volunteers to work in reviewing and proofreading a study on conflict over natural resources.

Main Tasks:

Research, facts check, and editing of a study on peace operations and Natural resources. check the reference, comment on ideas, draft paragraphs. The research will be of a global scope and make reference to specific peacekeeping missions. The team of online volunteers will review approx. 30-40 pages each. Research questions: Can a rapid deployment force help the UN to address conflicts, including related to the exploitation of natural resources? What would be needed for a rapid deployment force and what are the challenges?

Background and Objectives:

A significant number of modern conflicts are financed or driven by natural resources. Addressing the root causes of the conflict linked to natural resources provide a longer term solution to the conflict. At the same time, the availability of a stand-by UN Rapid Deployment force ready to deploy on demand during the early stage of a conflict can reduce drastically the changes for the conflict to escalate. This study will explore the interlinkage between natural resources and most of modern day’s conflicts and demonstrate the benefit of having a stand-by UN Rapid Deployment force to prevent conflict to escalate.

Requirements:

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in political science, international relations, natural resources, conflict prevention. Excellent drafting skills in English, experience in drafting articles or studies. Good knowledge of international affairs, including peace, security or humanitarian issues.
