Facebook is looking for research scientists with an operations research background to join the core data science team which is an interdisciplinary team of quantitative scientists that aims to deliver research and innovation that fundamentally increase the magnitude of Facebook's successes. The ideal candidate should have extensive graduate training in operations research methods, and an interest for answering challenging, open-ended research questions with real-world impact. It's preferred to have expertise in one or more of the following fields: linear programming, non-linear programming, queueing systems, game theory, operations management, and stochastic modeling.

Eligibility:

You must have:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. in operations research or a related field.
  2. Experience with empirical research and for answering questions with data.
  3. Experience in communicating quantitative analysis.
  4. Experience in manipulating and analyzing data.
  5. Knowledge of a data analysis tool such as R or Python, and experience with general-purpose programming languages.
  6. Work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  • Answer important product and business questions, by applying appropriate operations research methods.
  • Identify new areas across the family of Facebook apps and products, where operations research methods can drive product improvements.
  • Synthesize and apply relevant insights from the academic literature on operations research to Facebook’s products.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, designers, UX researchers, and product managers to accomplish complex tasks that deliver demonstrable value to Facebook's community of over 2 billion users.
