Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz offers a prize for researchers and organizations around the world  focusing on water-related scientific innovation and judged by leading scientists from around the world. Five prizes are bestowed every two years:

  • Specialized Prizes: four specialized prizes, each one is worth 133,000$.
  • Creativity Prize: only one prize worth 266,000$.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Researchers, research teams, and organizations nominate themselves for the specialized prizes.
  • Universities, university departments, research institutes, companies, and agencies can nominate scientists, researchers and inventors for the creativity prize.
  • All nominations of the Prize are to be made online through an electronic application form that is available on the PSIPW website. All required documentation and submitted works will be uploaded by way of the same form. No mail-in applications will be accepted.
  • In the event that a team of individuals are being nominated, all team members must be named at the time of application and one member must be specified as their representative. Groups of people working on the same project may not be nominated separately. They must be nominated as a group with a single nomination form.
  • The work or works being considered for the nomination must have been completed no more than five years prior to the nomination deadline for the current Prize and no more than five (5) distinct works may be submitted.
  • Works will be reviewed and judged in English. If the work being nominated was originally published in a language other than English, it must be submitted in the original language accompanied by a translation of the work. If a partial English translation is provided for a work submitted in another language, then only that portion of the work which is translated will be considered for assessment.
  • The work being nominated must not have previously been a recipient of any other international prize. (However, it may have been the recipient of local or regional prizes.)
  • Members of the Prize committees and their immediate relatives may not be nominated for the Prize.

Prizes:

  • The specialized prizes: four specialized prizes, each one is worth 133,000$.
  1. The Surface Water Prize coves every aspect of the study and development of surface water resources.
  2. The Groundwater Prize awards work related to all aspects of the study and development of groundwater resources.
  3. The Alternative Water Resources Prize covers desalination, waste water treatment, and other non-traditional sources of water.
  4. The Water Management & Protection Prize addresses the use, management, and protection of water resources.
  • The creativity prize: only one prize worth 266,000$.
  1. is awarded for cutting-edge interdisciplinary scientific work that can rightly be considered a breakthrough in any water-related field. 
  2. The work might be a body of research, an invention, or a new patented technology.

About Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water:

The Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) is a scientific prize with a focus on innovation. Established in 2002 by HRH Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, it rewards the efforts made by scientists, inventors and research organizations around the world which contribute to the sustainable availability of potable water and the alleviation of the escalating global problem of water scarcity.
To this end, PSIPW awards a suite of five biennial prizes, covering the entire water research landscape. In this way, PSIPW encourages research to find solutions to the various water-related challenges facing the world today.
