IREX is offering a job opportunity as a Deputy Regional Manager to join the team in the MENA region for 2020. 

Responsibilities:  

  1. Under the direction of the Regional Manager, support programmatic and administrative operations with the MENA team.
  2. Monitor operational environment and provide guidance for Standard Operating Procedures, including safety and security, finance and administration.
  3. Lead management of individual risk mitigation assistance.
  4. Provide guidance for implementation of the training program, ensuring all objectives are met. 
  5. Assist Regional Manager to identify individuals and media managers for training and coordinate the delivery of workshops and advising, as well as vetting procedures.
  6. Support Regional Manager to maintain and grow a Regional Security Advisory Network, which will identify journalists and media outlets in need of security training, help to assist journalists who come under threat, create channels to government where possible and contribute to linking the program with regional and international media freedom groups, human rights defenders and multilateral organizations.
  7. In coordination with the Regional Manager, M&E Manager and training team, support ongoing monitoring and evaluation of trainings and materials to address any deficiencies and identify trainings to be added to the regionally tailored curriculum in physical security, digital safety and emotional self-care.
  8. Supervise training team and lead onboarding of new trainers.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  1. University degree preferred.
  2. Experience leading a small team and supporting staff professional development.
  3. 3+ years’ experience conducting trainings, preferably experience training individuals in emergency protocols, risk management, digital security, or psychosocial care.
  4. Experience training other trainers.
  5. Substantial experience working in high-risk environments or emergency situations.
  6. Experience working with media professionals strongly preferred.
  7. Experience developing risk assessments, management and mitigation plans for organizations and individuals.
  8. Must be open to learning and adapting training material for a holistic approach combining physical safety, digital security, psychosocial self-care and risk management as well as piloting new adult learning techniques.
  9. Familiarity with media environment in the Middle East and North Africa.
  10. Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  11. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
  12. Ability to communicate professionally and provide written reporting in English and Arabic.
