The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for a qualified Employment and Asset-Building Coordinator to join the team and work in California, USA for 2020. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide one-on-one counseling to help program participants find and maintain gainful employment, build assets, and establish positive credit histories; follow-up with all clients regularly and record all contact with case notes.
  2. Supervise one or more Economic Empowerment Specialists to ensure delivery of high-quality Economic Empowerment services as described above; Ensure that job expectations and performance objectives are clear for all direct reports and follow up on annual performance review and goal planning process.
  3. Assist in the outreach and recruitment of program participants; screen and assess interested participants for program eligibility and participation.
  4. Package consumer loan applications for participants and submit electronically to the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO); serve as primary point of contact for these borrowers.
  5. Regularly monitor program outcomes and grant deliverables to ensure they are are met in accordance with donor and grant requirements; Ensure that information required for program eligibility and reporting purposes is collected and that accurate records are maintained, including case files and client data entry.
  6. Build and maintain strong relationships with employer partners; Represent IRC Oakland Early Employment Programs at partner and funder meetings and employer outreach events.
  7. Assist in the planning and coordination of special events such as employer engagement events and resume workshops.
  8. In collaboration with Economic Empowerment Manager, develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality of early employment programs.
  9. Work with Economic Empowerment Manager and development team to design new programming and draft proposals in response to Early Employment-related opportunities.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: 

  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  2. 2+ years’ experience in the non-profit sector strongly preferred.
  3. Prior experience working with limited-English-proficient and low-income populations preferred.
  4. 2-4 years’ experience with employment counseling, case management, or coaching required.
  5. Familiarity with U.S. credit and banking system and experience with personal budgeting, banking and credit counseling required.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make presentations.
  7. Proficiency in a relevant language (i.e. Tigrinya, Dari, Farsi, Spanish, Arabic) preferred.
