UNRWA Lebanon Field Office (LFO) regularly offers up the chances for unpaid internship/volunteer, for national and international students, to acquire work experience within their field of studies and to put into practice their field of study, gain work experience in an international environment and contribute to one of the largest and longest running humanitarian projects of the era. The UNRWA, Lebanon field office, is looking for potential interns/volunteers in various disciplines related to its activities. Depending on qualifications and availability, candidates may be selected for an internship/volunteer ship that relates either to the organization's strategic activities or to administrative or technical functions. The duration of an internship/volunteer can vary from a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 11 months, mainly depending on the requirements of the placement and the availability of the student. An internship/volunteering will give the successful candidates the opportunity to work in one of the departments of a multi-cultural international organization:

Administration services department.
Donor relations unit.
Education department (Employment, Scholarship, Training, Special Needs, TVET, Interactive Learning,...).
Finance department.
Health department (Pharmacist, Labs, Nursing, Research, …).
Human resources department.
Information technology.
Infrastructure & Camp improvement program (Architect, Site Engineer, Sanitation Engineer, …).
Legal office (Protection & Law).
Operations support office.
Procurement & logistics department.
Program support office.
Public information office.
Relief and social services department.
Security & safety unit.

Eligibility:

You must:

Have completed secondary level education as minimum. Candidates with completed university degree are preferred.
Be either nationals of the relevant duty station, a foreign national residing at the duty station, or a foreign national who travels (on his/her own expenses) to the duty station to take up the placement. The agency reserves all rights not to accept a volunteer/intern without giving reason.
Be proficient in English and Arabic (or in English and another official UN language).
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Demonstrate a keen interest in the work of UN in general and of UNRWA.
Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with different cultural backgrounds/beliefs.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be covered by a valid accident and health insurance for the specific duty station.
A placement may be terminated by either party at any time by giving five days written notice.
You must prove to the satisfaction of the agency that you have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage (covering the area/station you will work at)prior to commencing the placement.

Your Responsibilities:

Typical tasks performed by local/international interns are as follow:

Conducting research and data analysis.
Writing documents and reports.
Monitoring and evaluation activities.
Cataloguing information.
Assisting in organizational issues and organizing events events.
Data and document management.
Support tasks for the department relating to the studies and expertise of the student.
Administrative support.

About UNRWA:

Following the 1948 Arab-Palestinei conflict, UNRWA was established by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 302 (IV) of 8 December 1949 to carry out direct relief and works programs for Palestine refugees. The Agency began operations on 1 May 1950. In the absence of a solution to the Palestine refugee problem, the General Assembly has repeatedly renewed UNRWA's mandate, most recently extending it until 30 June 2020. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from the UN Member States. UNRWA also receives some funding from the Regular Budget of the United Nations, which is used mostly for international staffing costs. The Agency’s services encompass education, health care, relief, and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance, including in times of armed conflict.
