Confucius Institute is offering scholarship 2020 for Chinese Language. For the purpose of cultivating qualified International Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (CIH) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.

Scholarship Types And Qualifications:

  • Scholarship for PhD's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
  1. Commences September 2020 and provides scholarship for maximum four academic years. 
  2. Applicants shall be Master degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Lanuage, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Linguistics, or education-related majors, and have a minimum score of 200 in HSK Test (Level 6) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 
  3. Applicants should have work experience in Chinese language teaching and related fields for more than 2 years.
  • Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
  1. Commences September 2020 and provides scholarship for maximum two academic years.  
  2. Applicants shall be Bachelor degree holders, and have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
  • Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages 
  1. Commences September 2020 and provides scholarship for maximum four academic years. 
  2. Applicants must have graduated with a senior high school diploma, and have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 
  • Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Commences September 2020, and provides scholarship for maximum 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.
  1. TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 4), while HSKK test score required.
  2. Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 5) and 60 in HSKK test (intermediate level).
  3. Chinese Language Study Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 3 ). 

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants shall be

  1. Non-Chinese citizens
  2. Be in good physical and mental conditions and wih good academic performance and conduct.
  3. Committed to the Chinese language education and related work.
  4. Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2020. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.

Scholarship Coverage:

The scholarship provides:

  1. Full coverage on tuition fee
  2. Accommodation fee (for PhD student is RMB1,000 per month per person and other scholarship students is RMB700 per month per person)
  3. Living allowance (The monthly allowance for undergraduates students is 2,500 CNY per person. For Master student, the monthly allowance is 3,000 CNY per person. For PhD student, the monthly allowance is 3,500 CNY per person).
  4. Comprehensive medical insurance expenses. 

Required Documents:

  1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit a notarized copy of the guardian's warrant, who should be appointed by applicants’ parents and a foreign or Chinese resident in China.
  2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK, HSKK (within the two-year validity).
  3. A Recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institutions. 
  4. A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.
  5. Applicants of the Scholarship for Master Students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors and They are also required to provide a Study Plan (800-1000 words) including your background information and your purpose of study
  6. Applicants of the Scholarship for PhD Students are required to provide 2 reference letters from associate processors, professors and they are also required to provide a Study Plan in Chinese about 3000 words.
  7. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form filled in English.
  8.  Non-criminal Certificate (notarized photocopy in English or Chinese).
