The detector research and development (R&D) group is offering a PhD position in Physics in The University of Amsterdam. The successful applicant will assist in teaching undergraduate and master students. The salary depending on relevant experience will be €2.395 to €3.061 per month, based on a full-time contract (38 hours a week). 

Responsibilities:

  • to be active in the fundamental research of the KM3NeT group, focusing on the optimization of the detection of neutrinos from dark matter annihilation
  • collaborating with other experimental and theoretical physicists
  • publishing in high level international journals, and presenting at leading conferences;
  • to take the role of Teaching assistant in a number of bachelor or master courses in physics and astronomy.

Requirements:

  • An MSc in Physics or an equivalent degree;
  • excellent English communication skills.
  • Strong software skills are desirable.

Benefits:

  • You will be employed by the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Science (Institute of Physics). 
  • The appointment will be based on a temporary contract for 38 hours per week for the duration of 48 months. 
  • Initial employment is 18 months and after a positive evaluation, the contract will be extended further with 30 months. 
  • You will get a customized Training and Supervision Plan that will be evaluated every year.
  • The salary depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract will be €2.395 to €3.061 per month, based on a full-time contract (38 hours a week).
