Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern for the Development and Outreach Department for its Amsterdam office. Ideally, the intern will be available for 32 hours per week during a period of 4 to 6 months starting late-September to early October 2020 (dates and times are flexible).

Responsibilities:

This internship will primarily focus on fundraising, (digital) event planning, prospect research, database management, and maintaining contact with donors and partner organizations. Additionally, the organizers may assign other projects as they arise. The intern will mainly contribute to the preparation and follow-up of several (digital) events in fall and winter for the purpose of fundraising and outreach to our supporters.

Qualifications for Internship Opportunity in the Netherlands

Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, reliable, flexible, and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills. Also, candidates should be interested in fundraising, outreach, and special events within a human rights context. Furthermore, written and oral command of English and Dutch is a requirement, as well as computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, internet applications, database). Experience with collaborating within a team is desirable. Similarly, students and recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Compensation:

Interns will receive a gross monthly stipend of EUR 300 per month (pro-rated based on internship hours) to help offset living expenses in accordance with HRW policy and the intern. Furthermore, those interns who do not hold transportation cards, HRW will reimburse up to EUR 30 per day in the office for travel.

Also, students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships may offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization. Also, close supervision by the HRW staff, and interaction with other international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials. Furthermore, students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.
