Applications are now opened for the World Bank-ACE Climate SABC Scholarships Programme. Limited scholarship opportunities are available for eligible male and female Master’s students from Eastern and Southern Africa Region.

Africa Center of Excellence (ACE) for Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Conservation (Climate SABC) at Haramaya University in Ethiopia was established with financial support from the World Bank and operation in October 2017.

The center provides a new opportunity for African students to enroll in transdisciplinary post-graduate study programs conducted by a truly global faculty in one of the following programs: MSc in Climate Smart Agriculture, MSc in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management, PhD in Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Management (with sub-specializations in Crops, Livestock, Soil and Water, Biodiversity, Policies, Institutions, and Innovation). Candidates will be selected on a competitive basis by vetting their academic credentials.

World Bank-ACE Climate SABC Scholarships Benefits

Limited scholarship opportunities are available for eligible male and female MSc students from Eastern and Southern Africa. Ethiopian female students will be provided with small pocket money and research grants. Successful male Ethiopian candidates will be granted financial support to cover research expenses.

Qualified PhD applicants will be considered for sponsored admission to cover their tuition fees, research costs, and living expenses.

Scholarship winners will be entitled to grants which may include monthly stipends, waiver of full tuition fees, medical services, book allowances and research funds. The Center will provide accommodation on the main Campus of Haramaya University for a reasonable rent fee.

World Bank-ACE Climate SABC Scholarships Eligibility

Applicants for MSc in Climate Smart Agriculture must hold a B.Sc. or its equivalent in agricultural and environmental sciences and related fields from recognized universities; applicants from non-agricultural backgrounds may be required to take remedial/bridging courses to compensate for deficiencies as recommended by appropriate academic units.

Applicants for MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem management (BCEM) must hold a B.Sc. degree from recognized university or college in biological and environmental sciences, agricultural science, wildlife management and ecotourism, natural resources management, forestry, geography, and related fields.

Applicants for the PhD program must have an MSc degree in field related to agriculture (plant sciences, animal sciences, agricultural economics, rural development and agricultural extension) and natural resource management (natural resource economics, agro-management, biodiversity conservation and management, soil and water conservation, land resource management and administration, climatology/agro meteorology, disaster/natural risk management and other related disciplines.
