Application for the Swedish Government Scholarship (Swedish Institute Scholarship) for the academic year 2021-2022 is now open. The Swedish Institute (SI) Scholarship is a fully funded programme that allow eligible candidate from participating countries to get a Master’s degree at Swedish universities.

An estimated 300 scholarships will be granted for numerous master’s programmes (taught in English) starting in the autumn semester 2021. Priority will be given to master’s studies with an emphasis on the contribution to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The scholarship is intended for full-time one-year or two-year master’s programmes. The tuition fee will be paid directly to the Swedish universities in the beginning of each semester. The stipend for living expenses is paid monthly during the scholarship period.

  • Number of Awards: An estimated 300 scholarships will be granted.
  • Duration: The scholarship is intended for full-time one-year or two-year master’s programmes, and is only awarded for programmes starting in the autumn semester.
  • Target group: Open to citizens of Armenia; Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Belarus, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Moldova, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Swedish Government Scholarship Benefits

The Swedish Government Scholarship provides successful applicants with the followings:

  1. Tuition fees: pay directly to the Swedish university by SI
  2. Living expenses of SEK 10,000/month
  3. For Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe the scholarship also includes a travel grant of SEK 15,000 for the entire study period. This is a one-time payment and does not apply to students already living in Sweden
  4. For Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russian Federation, Turkey or Ukraine. The scholarship also includes a travel grant of SEK 10,000 for the entire study period. This is a one-time payment and does not apply for students already living in Sweden.
  5. Insurance against illness and accident
  6. Membership of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) – a platform to help you grow professionally and build your network while in Sweden
  7. Membership of the SI Alumni Network after your scholarship period – a platform for continued networking and further professional development.

Swedish Government Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for the Swedish Government Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Have minimum of 3,000 hours of demonstrated employment
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience from your current or previous employment
  • Be a citizen of a country that is eligible for the scholarship programme
  • The master’s studies must be eligible for SI scholarships
  • Be liable to pay tuition fees to Swedish universities, have followed the steps of university admission, and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programmes by 9th of April 2021

Application instructions

The program grant scholarships to a large number of master’s programmes starting in the autumn semester 2021. A list of master’s programmes that are eligible for the academic year 2021-2022 scholarship will be published by the middle of November 2020.

  1. To begin with, apply for a master’s programme at universityadmissions.se, between 16 October 2020 – 15 January 2021.
  2. Apply for an SI scholarship between 8 – 18 February 2021, through the online application portal.
