This scholarship was established in 1960 by a legacy of $4000 given by Miss E. S. D. Ruthning, representing $2,000 from her estate and $2,000 from the estate of her sister Miss V. E. M. Ruthning. It is in memory of their father H. L. E. Ruthning, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a deserving first year student studying law at UQ. The scholarship is awarded to the student who receives the highest marks for 4 units of LAWS courses in their first semester of an approved program.
A student is eligible for the scholarship if the student:
