IRC offers a remote internship opportunity: Refugee Resettlement. Through this internship, Student will learn about refugee resettlement and refugee social services, student will develop problem solving and client services skills and will learn how to manage client cases within established deadlines.

Eligibility:

You must have:

  • Undergraduate level studies in social sciences, international relations or a related field.
  • Languages desired but not required: French, Arabic or Spanish.
  • Strong desire to help refugees rebuild their lives in New York.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgement, and have high attention to detail.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Patience, understanding, flexibility, and an unceasingly positive attitude.
  • Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.
  • Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  1. Assist ICM caseworker with services to clients, such as connecting clients to resources within mental health systems, physical healthcare, and benefit services
  2. setting up appointments, accompanying clients to appointments, and coordinating with internal and external programs.
  3. Assist staff with sorting and filing of documents and case files.
  4. Contribute to client’s ability to thrive in their community through a strong emphasis on client empowerment.
  5. Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy.
  6. Display sensitivity to cultural and personality differences of clients.  Respect their beliefs and values.
  7. Perform front desk duties when necessary, such as greeting visitors, answering the phones, and connecting them to appropriate staff.
  8. Provide translation and interpretation when necessary.
  9. Other related duties as assigned.
