Disney is offering a job opportunity as a Production Accountant in Australia for 2020. The Production Accountant is responsible for carrying out the accounting and reporting functions for the Stage Plays business unit in the ANZ territory in a timely and accurate manner. Additionally, this role supports certain aspects of the Home Entertainment (WDSHE) business, and is required to support any other business unit as required according to the needs of the business.

Responsibilities:

Accounting & Management Reporting Perform the business unit weekly/monthly/quarterly processes for Stage Plays, including:

  • Manage the weekly payroll process ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and Awards. Includes data validations, leave accruals, and a focus on internal controls.
  • Process all weekly and quarterly journals including accruals/prepayments/adjustments, continually monitoring and collaborating with the business unit to reflect the latest circumstances and ensure adequacy of reserves.
  • Track advance ticket sales, including deferred income reconciliation to third party reports and calculation of interest payable to external partners.
  • Reconcile and process weekly production and merchandise revenue and raise customer invoices.
  • Review and process weekly theatre settlements ensuring adherence to the relevant agreements.
  • Build new reporting templates as required and for each new show/location.
  • Prepare weekly production spending reports for pre-production and move periods, following up on open items to ensure budgets are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Regular and proactive review/management of open Purchase Orders.
  • Prepare weekly variance reporting for operating periods, including detailed analysis/ commentary and monitoring of trends.
  • Prepare weekly Marketing reports and provide support to facilitate management of the budget.
  • Prepare the quarterly reporting packages for submission to the US.
  • Calculate third party and intercompany production and merchandise royalties payable per the relevant contracts, ensuring alignment with Legal and Participations.
  • Determine GL coding for intercompany recharges from other territories.
  • Reconcile intercompany eliminating accounts to ensure they remain in balance at all times.
  • Verify adherence to contractual terms with various third parties including theatres and merchandise licensee.
  • Create and maintain SAP project master data, and monitor for any settlement errors.
  • Reconcile all Balance Sheet accounts, including open item management and completion of Account Reconciliation Tool in SAP, and resolution of outstanding items in timely manner.
  • Review line item reports to identify and investigate unusual items.
  • Address questions from US, Regional and the local business unit.
  • Provide analytical support to the business unit for forecasting and budgeting purposes Perform limited scope business unit monthly/quarterly processes for WDSHE.

Tax and Compliance:

  • Prepare and maintain tax and accounting asset register and depreciation /amortisation schedule.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Income Tax return, including preparation of schedules to support transfer pricing requirements.
  • Identification and tracking of any Fringe Benefits provided to employees.
  • Payroll tax and Workcover registrations/deregistrations, and monthly/annual reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GST and WHT legislation.
  • Prepare and lodge relevant government statistical returns.
  • If applicable, all tax compliance matters for touring productions in foreign jurisdictions, including GST, individual income tax and royalty WHT.
  • Key contact for internal and external audit.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify risks areas and implement process enhancements to deliver improved accuracy, consistency and controls.
  • Streamline processes for greater efficiency.
  • Build reports that meet the needs of multiple stakeholders thus reducing any duplication of effort.
  • Work with IT groups and project teams to test and implement new systems and enhancements.

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service and support at all times.
  • Support the business unit (including theatre-based staff) with ad hoc requests and analysis.
  • Build strong and respectful relationships with the business units and third parties.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Holder of Bachelor Degree in Accounting and Finance or equivalent.
  2. Holder of CPA or equivalent qualification, or studying towards.
  3. At least 2-3 years of experience as financial/ management accountant closing books under US GAAP and/or IFRS.
  4. Experience using SAP R/3 would be advantageous.
  5. Hands on experience in managing a diverse set of stakeholders.
  6. Experience performing a wide range of reconciliations and trial balance review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Good working knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.
  2. Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail and accuracy.
  3. Sound knowledge of MS Office and high proficiency with Excel.
  4. Familiarity with local tax and statutory requirements in Australia.
  5. Confident, self-motivated and can work independently.
  6. Strong communication skills and enjoys mixing with both finance and non-finance professionals.
  7. Highly organised and able to manage competing deadlines.
  8. Excellent customer service skills.
  9. Logical and lateral thinker.
