UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity, as The Global Hub for Education in Emergencies with UNICEF requires the support of two online volunteers who are experienced in creating visual identities.

Continued access to quality education during and after conflict, disaster, or epidemics plays an important role for crises-affected and displaced children, youth, families and communities. And yet, the right to education during and after these periods of emergencies and protracted crises is unevenly addressed by governments, the international community, donors and other stakeholders. Education in emergencies (EiE) is crucial for the protection and resilience of individuals as well as for the social and economic fabric and recovery of crisis-affected communities. Approximately 52% of the world’s forcibly displaced people are children; yet, less than 24% of refugees are enrolled in secondary school. Today, 263 million school-aged children are not in school and approximately half of them live in countries affected by crisis and conflict. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this dramatic situation. At the 2019 Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, Switzerland pledged to make Geneva a Global Hub for Education in Emergencies.

Volunteer duration and working hours:

6-10 hours per week for 2 weeks.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Candidates with previous professional experience in graphic design and designing visual identities,
  2. have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications,

  5. Ability to communicate in English.
  6. If you are interested in undertaking this task, please submit a CV, a few lines why you are the perfect candidate for this opportunity, and if available, samples of your previous design and visual identity experience.

Volunteer task:

Based on initial discussions and examples from other initiatives, the online volunteers are expected to create 1-2 options of a unique visual identity for the new Global Hub for Education in Emergencies including 1) a logo, 2) colors and 3) typography for the members to choose from.

The initial proposal may need to be adjusted considering members feedback. The online volunteers are expected to be available immediately, until the visual identity is finished. The online volunteer will have the close support and guidance of the Coordinator of the Global Hub for Education in Emergencies.
