IRC offers an internship opportunity in the USA in goat project business operations. The East African Refugee Goat Project of Utah was created through the initiative of leaders from three East African communities in Salt Lake City in 2013 in collaboration with the IRC. The project provides access to youth education and leadership opportunities and a space for cultural and community engagement. Starting in 2021, the goat project will collaborate with interested members of the East African communities to develop supplemental income-earning activities through the renting of goats for paid offsite grazing, a form of invasive weed control and wildfire mitigation. With oversight from the goat project financial capability VISTA and goat project coordinator, the goat project business operations intern will assist in the development and research of a business model for expanding the goat project’s paid offsite grazing operations as well as contribute to the creation and dissemination of resources to train goat project entrepreneurs about grazing best practices and accepted business practices and operational processes, such as marketing strategies, business tracking and record-keeping, product delivery and customer relations. The internship is for 4 to 5 months starting in January 2021 with 15-20 hours per week.
