Plus Enactus is offering writing competition for students who take entrepreneurial action for others creates a better world for us all. Enactus teams around the world will be recognized and rewarded for taking action to generate sustainable, positive impact on ocean challenges. Top 4 finalist teams will have the opportunity to receive a portion of $25,000 USD project scaling funding

About the Challenge:

  • As much as 40% of the ocean is heavily affected by pollution, depleted fisheries, loss of coastal habitats and other human activities
  • Marine pollution, an overwhelming majority of which comes from land-based sources, is reaching alarming levels, with an average of 13,000 pieces of plastic litter to be found on every square kilometer of ocean
  • Today we are seeing 30 percent of the world’s fish stocks overexploited, reaching below the level at which they can produce sustainable yields*
  • Oceans cover three-quarters of the Earth's surface and represent 99 percent of the living space on the planet by volume
  • The market value of marine and coastal resources and industries is estimated at $3 trillion USD per year, about 5 percent of global GDP
  • More than 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods
  • Based on the aforementioned, the applicant should choose one of the challenges facing the ocean, the most important of which is ocean pollution, and write solutions to eliminate or reduce the impact of that problem.
  • The applicant will attend Global discussion forum collaboration and have access to resources to help build or expand your ocean project
