Position Title Student - Mathematics Supplemental Instruction Leader - Spring 2021

Summary

Looking to hire student employee to assist with the following:

  • Attend intensive mandatory training before the semester begins and periodic training during the semester
  • Attend all class lectures
  • Model in-class behavior by paying attention and taking notes
  • Plan and hold SI sessions each week at set times
  • Use active learning and facilitation strategies to encourage collaboration among students
  • Integrate study skills with course content
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Communicate regularly with the professor to orient SI toward course goals
  • Market and advertise SI to students
  • Participate in ongoing evaluations and reflections
  • Maintain communication with SI staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Preference given to candidates who have earned an A- or better in course material.
  • Preference given to candidates recommended by the SI instructor.
  • Preference given to candidates whose own class schedules better match the needs of the SI program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of material covered in the SI course, as evidenced by having received a B+ or better in the course at UVU.
  • Must have excellent communication and public speaking skills. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Creativity and self-direction in planning and carrying out SI sessions.
  • Time- and task-management skills.
  • Reliability.Ability to collaborate with students to enhance their knowledge of course material.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism with faculty and students.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and be understood in English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

BEGINS SPRING 2021 SEMESTER

  • SI leaders hold sessions in classrooms, conference rooms, or computer labs on UVU main campus.
  • Schedule determined as needed by instructors, Math Lab director, and employee.
