Position Summary |
In the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, students assist with laboratory and office work functions. We offer four types of positions. Most program participants can help in different roles based on their preference and experience. 1. Laboratory Setup Assistants. Laboratory Setup Assistants prepare and label solutions used in the labs, set out supplies for each experiment, and help to clean up after the lab sessions are completed each week. 2. Teaching Assistants. Teaching Assistants (TAs) are responsible for attending each lab meeting, where they assist with the overall operation and instruction of the meeting. TAs offer guidance to peers on proper laboratory technique, provide reminders about safety precautions and ensure that procedures are being followed properly. 3. Stockroom Assistants. Stockroom Assistants sign out supplies to students participating in the various laboratory sessions operating during their shift. Stockroom personnel help to maintain a neat and orderly storage area by assisting with cleaning glassware, organizing supplies and performing regular inspections of the stockroom. 4. Office Assistants. Office Assistants work in the Chemistry Office (Zurn 414) and provide administrative support to the chemistry faculty. Office Assistants may be assigned to specific projects or faculty members. They may make photocopies, scan paperwork, run errands across campus, or help with grading. This position runs through the academic year, up to 10 hours per week, depending on the student’s preference and the availability of shifts. |
Required Qualifications | The applicant should have completed at least two semesters of 100-level chemistry laboratories. |

Physical Demands | Must be able to work in a laboratory environment |

Dr. Nogaj will provide an availability form to you and will create the semester work schedule based on your preferences and the needs of the Department. A work-study orientation session with safety training will take place on Tuesday, August 11 from 11 AM-noon via zoom (link will be emailed).
