The Department of Management, Society and Communication (MSC) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) invites applications for one vacant PhD scholarship within the field of blended learning and student engagement in management education.

The recent increase in the use of technology-enabled learning in business and management studies has shown that technology can play an important role in management education but also that lack of student engagement can pose a challenge for student learning outcome. Our understanding of what causes this lack of engagement is still limited and more knowledge of students’ preferences, effectful designs and new roles for teachers are needed. We therefore invite applicants to develop a research project to study student engagement and disengagement in blended learning in management education. Applicants are required to develop a well-specified research proposal, which should be linked to student engagement with a special focus on blended learning. The project may include addressing topic areas like:

  • How can different blended learning designs support student (dis)engagement?
  • How can different forms of student engagement be measured using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods?
  • How do face-to-face and online components foster different forms of (dis)engagement and how do they interact?
  • What are the consequences of blended learning for (dis)engagement of instructors and how does this influence student learning?

We invite interested candidates from education, sociology, psychology and economics to apply but also candidates from other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programmes. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).
CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. One third of CBS PhD graduates go on to employment outside universities and public research institutions.
