Scholarship value

These scholarships include a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend, £15,285 in 2020/21 (2021/22 rate to be announced), tuition fees at the home rate and access to further research funding.

Criteria

UKRI has updated their eligibility criteria  for all UKRI-funded postgraduate studentships for 2021/22 academic year. Both home and international students will be eligible for the full award funding (stipend to support living costs and fees at research institutions UK rate).

Candidates should have a BSc/MSci 2:1 and/or Masters (MSc or MRes) at Merit/Distinction level (>60%) and/or evidence of significant relevant professional experience equivalent to Master’s level. SoCoBio welcomes applications from candidates with sustained experience beyond their undergraduate degree level that is specifically relevant to biosciences research. This includes students with degrees in science or engineering-disciplines outside of biology.

UK residential conditions:

  • Be a UK National (meeting UKRI residency requirements ), or
  • Have settled status, or
  • Have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirement) or
  • Have indefinite leave to remain or enter

If you are applying as an overseas student (this includes EU nationals), Kent will waive the difference between the Home and Oversea fees.
