Thinking of doing a PhD in arts and humanities? Apply for CHASE AHRC funding in London and South East England

The Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE) is delighted to offer up to 56 Arts and Humanities Research Council PhD studentships and is seeking applications from outstanding graduates to undertake doctoral research starting in October 2021.

CHASE DTP2 studentships are offered for doctoral research at:

Birkbeck, University of London
The Courtauld Institute of Art
Goldsmiths, University of London
SOAS University of London,
University of East Anglia
University of Essex
University of Kent
University of Sussex

Understanding and promoting the value of human culture and creativity in addressing wide-ranging challenges is central to the CHASE vision of postgraduate research and professional development. Across CHASE, more than 1,000 academics in the arts and humanities, both theorists and leading practitioners (including artists, curators, novelists, poets, musicians, media practitioners, lawyers), offer a broad and diverse range of supervision.

We support discipline-based projects, but also specialise in interdisciplinary research and creative practice. Our research and training environment encourages our doctoral students to develop interdisciplinary methodologies in emerging fields of study and to explore how to integrate their research with developments in digital cultures. Our network of partnerships with prominent arts and humanities organisations and creative industries opens up diverse opportunities, including funded research placements.

Successful applicants will have their fees paid, and receive a stipend to cover living expenses (where eligible). We offer funding on a full- or part-time basis to accommodate your research alongside other commitments. Additional funds are available for skills development, including language training, and to support research expenses.

CHASE is actively committed to the values of diversity and inclusivity. Mindful of the recent ‘Broken Pipeline’ report into barriers facing BME graduates accessing research council funding, we particularly welcome applicants from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
