Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe.

Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as
Postdoc within Computer Science
formally based at Department of Computer and Information Science

Duties
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.

This announcement is for a position of postdoc within AI and formal verification in systems with dependability requirements  which is financed within a Singapore-Sweden collaboration scheme with the national program: Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) . The candidate will contribute to methods for analysis of systems with machine learning components that are used in decision making, and generation of explanations that on the basis of collected data are acceptable within a safety-critical system (automotive, avionics). The project will be organised in collaboration with researchers at Chalmers (Professor Carl Seger) and Singapore NanYang Technological University (Professor Liu Yang) with the intention to creation symbolic abstractions of training data and classifications obtained by deep learning algorithms. The abstractions will then be the basis of formal verification of system dependability and metamorphic testing of the resulting system. At LiU the postdoc will collaborate with an active PhD student in the lab who works with safety-critical avionic applications.

We offer an internationally renowned research environment with excellent facilities and a wide network of collaboration in industry and academia in Sweden. The research environment at the real-time systems Laboratory includes several PhD students working in the areas of critical infrastructure security, system modelling and verification, and future networks load management and security (edge, 5G, vehicular). A postdoc will benefit from our wide network of collaborators, friendly atmosphere, and strengthen the excellent research ongoing in the lab in collaboration with existing and forthcoming PhD students. We welcome candidates who are looking for a future career in academia or public/private sector research positions in Sweden and looking to grow as a researcher in our environment. The candidate is given the chance of, and training in contribution towards acquiring research grants by the senior faculty members.

Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.

Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university in relevant areas of computer science. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the date of application.

Publications in first class journals and highly competitive conferences in areas relevant to the work, i.e. AI, Machine learning (ML), knowledge representation, adversarial ML, formal modelling and verification, and abstract interpretation will be prioritised.

Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written, is an absolute necessity.

Appointment time
A Postdoc is appointed until further notice, but for no longer than two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.
