The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Postdoc (m/f/d) - Polymer Chemistry with a focus on the synthesis of (co) polymer libraries by robot assisted instrumental setups. This is initially a 2-years fixed term contract with the potential of continuation depending on applicant's performance. The place of employment is Teltow (near Berlin, Germany).

Your tasks

Within this project copolymer libraries shall be built a starting point for polymer databases. You are responsible for the design, synthesis and characterization of co-oligomers and copolymers applying various polymerization techniques in an automated setup. Within the project, you will use high-throughput characterization methods. The targeted (co)polymers comprise especially copolyester may include actively moving polymers, colloids, and self-organizing and self-assembling systems. You have the opportunity to actively participate in the publication of the results, preparation of patents, and in attracting additional funding.

Your profile

You have a PhD in organic chemistry, macromolecular sciences, chemical or polymer engineering, and a strong background in polymer synthesis and characterization. You have already gained experience in design, synthesis and characterization of degradable polymeric biomaterials as documented by a significant number of scientific publications. Additional knowledge in robotic synthesis is highly welcome; knowledge in computer programming languages is an asset. You are eager to collaborate with specialists on polymer analysis and computer scientists in order to drive a data based approach in polymer science.
