Scandinavian linguistics at ILN comprises the scientific study of the Scandinavian languages with focus on grammar (phonology, morphology, and syntax), language history, dialectology and sociolinguistics. Within Norwegian as a second language, key research areas are second language acquisition and multilingualism.

The Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies invites applicants to submit proposals for PhD projects. Proposals relevant to any of the fields represented in the research group Scandinavian linguistics/Norwegian as a second language are especially welcome. Applications connecting to one of the following areas may be prioritized:

  • Historical and contemporary sociolinguistics (incl. multilingualism and literacy)
  • Phonology (incl. morphophonology) in Norwegian/North Germanic
  • Second language grammar
  • Syntax in Norwegian / North Germanic
